MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS/RECOGNITIONS OF MEMBERS DURING 2007-08

1. ASI - YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD - 2006 to Shri. Anoop Kumar Shukla
   Mr. Anoop Kumar Shukla, Scientist/Engineer, VSSC has been conferred "ASI - YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD" for the year 2006 by Astronautical Society of India (ASI), Bangalore for his contribution towards the development of special ceramics and their products for Indian space programme.


2. SAME - ANKIT PRODYOGIKI AWARD - 2006 to Dr. M R. Suresh
   Dr. M R Suresh, Deputy Project Director (Materials & Fabrication), RLV-TD Project, VSSC, has been given the "SAME- ANKIT PRODYOGIKI AWARD 2006" by Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (SAME) for his contribution towards the development of special steels and ferrous alloys for Indian space programme.


3. SAME - ANWESHAK AWARD - 2007 to Dr. Bhanu Pant Dr. Bhanu Pant, Project Leader, Titanium Alloy Project, VSSC has been given the "SAME- ANWESHAK AWARD 2007" by Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (SAME) for his contribution towards the development of Titanium alloys and their products and intermetallics for Indian space programme.


4. SAME - ANWESHAK AWARD - 2007 to Shri. S.K.Singh Shri. S.K.Singh, VSSC has been given the "SAME- ANWESHAK AWARD 2007" by Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (SAME) for his contribution towards the development of Titanium alloys and their products for Indian space programme.


5. Mr. Rohit Kumar Gupta, VSSC has received 'YUVA ANWESHAK AWARD' for the year 2006 from Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (SAME) for his contribution in Indigenous Development, Processing and Characterization of Superalloy, Columbium alloy and HSLA steel for aerospace applications.


6. Mr. M. Suresh of NIIST (National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology) has received 'Best Paper Award' for his paper on 'Creep behaviour of Bismuth added AZ91 magnesium alloy' during IIM - NMD - ATM 2007 held at Mumbai. The paper is co-authored by Mr. S.B. Shiju, Mr. A. Srinivasan, Mr. J. Swaminathan, Dr. U.T.S. Pillai and Dr. B.C. Pai of NIIST.


7. Mr. K.K. Ravikumar of NIIST has received 'Best Paper Award' for his paper on 'Structure and properties of squeeze cast 2124-10SiC composite' during IIM-NMD-ATM 2007 held at Mumbai. The paper is co-authored by Mr. K. Sukumaran, , Mr. S.G.K. Pillai and V. Antony of NIIST.


8. Dr. T.P.D. Rajan of NIIST has received 'Best Technical Paper Award' for his paper on 'Friction Stir Welding of 356 Aluminum Alloy and Silicon Carbide Reinforced Aluminium Matrix Composites', presented in the International Conference on Advanced Materials and Composites (ICAMC 2007) held at Trivandrum. The paper is co-authored by Mr. Joby Joseph, Dr. R.M. Pillai, Dr. B.C. Pai, Dr. V. Suryanarayanan and Dr. K. Padmanabhan, of NIIST.


9. Mr. N. Balasubramani of NIIST has received 'Best Technical Paper Award' for his paper on 'Grain Refinement of AZ84 Magnesium Alloy by Al4C3:Al4C3 Synthesis using Al-5wt%SiC Composites' presented in the International Conference on Advanced Materials and Composites (ICAMC 2007) held at Trivandrum. The paper is co-authored by Mr. K.R. Ravi, Dr. U.T.S. Pillai and Dr. B.C. Pai of NIIST.


10. Mr. K. Rajesh of NIIST has received 'Best Technical Paper Award' for his paper on 'Sol-Gel Nanocrystalline Photoluminascent Europium Doped Lanthanum Phosphate Particulates and Coatings' presented in the International Conference on Advanced Materials and Composites (ICAMC 2007) held at Trivandrum. The paper is co-authored by Ms. Athira N. Raj, Ms. N. Sumaletha, Mr. P. Mukundan and Dr. K.G.K. Warrier of NIIST.


11. K. Thomas Tharian of VSSC has received 'Best Paper Award' for his paper on 'Controlled processing of a high strength austenitic-martensitic class stainless stell for cryogenic applications', presented in the International Symposium on Advances in stainless steel held at Chennai. The paper is co-authored by Mr. R.K. Gupta, Mr. K. Sreekumar and Dr. P.P.Sinha of VSSC.


12. Dr. P. Prabhakar Rao of NIIST has received 'Zeiss Best SEM Micrograph Award' in the National Conference on Electron Microscopy and Allied Field and XXIX Annual Technical Meeting of EMSI held at Delhi. The co-researchers of this work are Dr. Peter Koshy and Mr. M. R. Chandran of NIIST.


13. Mr. Siju C. Chako and Mr. P.S. Vishnu of Arya Central School, Trivandrum have won the Chapter level "Prof. Brahm Prakash Memorial Materials Quiz" held at NIIST, Trivandrum.
