The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) is a premier body representing the
family of professional metallurgists in India. IIM was formed in 1947
with the objectives of promoting and advancing the study and practice
of Science and Technology of Metals & Alloys and protecting the interests
of metallurgists and metallurgical engineers.
With its headquarters at Kolkata, the activities of the Institute are
conducted through 3 divisions and 51 chapters spread across the country.
Today IIM has nearly 10,000 members. The Institute is recognised and
supported by the Government of India through the Ministry of Steel.
The Institute has, over the years, developed professional relationship
with various societies and institutes worldwide signing MOUs with
societies/institutes of the USA, China, Hungary, UK, Ukraine,
Philippines, Australia and Korea.
About The Indian Institute of Metals, Trivandrum chapter
The IIM, Trivandrum Chapter was established in 1979. Today, in its long
professional and technical journey it has become a nodal platform for
the metallurgists, technologists and engineers of the chapter covering
R & D organisations like VSSC,
NIIST,
LPSC,
SCTIMST and industries like
KELTEC,
IRE and Carborundum Universal with active 100 members.
About Trivandrum
Located at the south-western tip of India, Thiruvananthapuram, which is
also known as Trivandrum is a calm and quiet city and is the capital
of Kerala State. Thiruvananthapuram has a long coastline full of
coconut trees, and is a much sought after tourist destination. It has
grown into a centre for research activities and is known internationally.

The city is centred on Railway Station with a radius of 5 km. It has
excellent public transport system, taxis and auto-rickshaws for travel.
Airport is 10 km. away. The climate in the month of November is
pleasant with a maximum of 34oC and a minimum of 22oC.
